Message from the counselor:
As a counselor I will have respect for autonomy. I will respect my clients and will believe that they have the ability to make their own decisions and choices. I believe that my clients are able to take responsibility for themselves. I understand that I assist clients, but I am not responsible for my clients.
Facilitating self-actualization is very important to me in the counseling relationship. As a counselor I will make every effort to guide clients toward reaching the ultimate goal of Maslow’s Hierarchy, which is reaching self-actualization. It important to help my clients to reach the point at which they can define their purpose in life and fulfill their potential.
In counseling I utilize cognitive behavioral and solution focused approaches most frequently. These approaches involve identifying goals and objectives in order to cope more effectively with challenges faced in life. Clients will play an active role in developing a plan to reach the goals set along with the assistance of the counselor.
