Promoting Wellness
New Wellness Center opens at Rockcastle Regional Hospital
Rockcastle Regional Hospital has a new space devoted to the promotion of Wellness in the community. The Wellness Center at Rockcastle Regional opened on Monday, December 19 for group fitness classes and educational events.
“We’re arranging programs to meet the needs of our community and encouraging people to be proactive in their health,” said Rockcastle Regional Hospital CEO Stephen A. Estes. “Incorporating healthy nutrition and exercise into their lifestyle will assist in managing or reducing their chances of obtaining a preventable chronic condition.”
The 2,600 square foot Wellness Center is located on the 3rd floor of the Outpatient Services Center and will host a variety of classes. Zumba Fitness is currently being hosted by two different instructors.
Morgan Kincer, Georgetown College graduate and Rockcastle Regional Physical Therapy tech, started teaching Zumba in April 2010 after her Mom saw a demonstration on the Today Show and thought it would be a big hit. Morgan liked the Zumba program too and it’s cardio benefits.
“I love Zumba because everybody is good at it and everyone can learn it,” said Morgan. “We have a great time and get a great workout.”
Kayla Rowe, EKU student and Rockcastle Regional Community Relations student, started teaching Zumba classes after attending some local classes and was amazed at the calories a Zumba class can burn.
“An average Zumba class can burn up to a thousand calories,” said Kayla. “It’s a fun way to get fit for everyone! Don’t worry about if you’re a good dancer, I’ll teach you the moves!”
Both Morgan and Kayla want to get people motivated to live a healthy life and Zumba is a great way to get exercise into your day.
