Patient Support Services
Oncology RehabilitationThe Rockcastle Regional oncology rehab program offers services for those living with cancer and survivors of cancer. It is a holistic treatment approach for those living with a cancer diagnosis. Each person with cancer has unique physical and emotional needs. Oncology rehab focuses on regaining physical function and independence, often following surgical or medical therapies that may have left an individual unable to resume his or her normal lifestyle with some level of assistance. Objectives include: appropriate diet/nutritional counseling with dietary services, improving physical condition and mobility with physical therapy, provide and assistances with activities of daily living with occupational therapy and improving mental conditions with a social worker. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact James Messer, PT, MSPT at 606-256-2609.
Patient Education and TrainingOur clinical staff provides various resources that will help patients and their families learn what they need to know about their cancer type and treatments. Print materials and educational presentations are made available to patients and their families. There is also a computer located in the chemotherapy suite specifically for cancer patients and their families to use to gain access to many on-line resources.
Look Good, Feel Better Group SessionsVolunteer beauty professionals lead small groups, usually about 5 to 10 women, through practical, hands-on experience teaching cancer patients beauty tips to look good and feel better about their appearance during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Women learn about makeup, skin care, nail care, and ways to deal with hair loss such as with wigs, turbans, and scarves. Each woman gets a free makeup kit to use during and after the workshop.
