Rockcastle Regional is excited to host the Ability Walk, a cherished community event that first made its debut in 2021. The Ability Walk is more than just a walk; it’s a vibrant celebration of inclusivity, emphasizing the powerful message of “Seeing the Ability, Not the Disability.”

The Ability Walk serves as an opportunity for community members to unite and honor the abilities and achievements of individuals with disabilities. This event underscores the importance of recognizing the unique strengths and talents that each person brings to the table, fostering a culture of acceptance and understanding.

One of the highlights of the event is the special recognition of our VIP guests. As they cross the finish line, they will be celebrated with cheers and a special medal. This moment is not only a testament to their perseverance, but also a reflection of the community commitment to inclusivity.

The Ability Walk features an array of fun and inclusive, sensory-friendly activities – like face painting, tie-dye, and a sensory wall. These activities are designed to ensure that everyone, regardless of their individual needs, can fully enjoy the event. From interactive games to a calming sensory station, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

This year’s event also serves as an important fundraiser, with proceeds dedicated to the Mt. Vernon Elementary School’s Inclusive Playground Project. This initiative aims to create a playground that is accessible and enjoyable for all children, regardless of their abilities. By supporting this project, the Ability Walk is helping to build a more inclusive and welcoming environment for future generations. All proceeds from the Walk and the t-shirt fundraiser will go towards the Inclusive Playground Project.

The Ability Walk is more than just an event, it’s a movement towards greater inclusivity and understanding. By participating in the Ability Walk, you are contributing to a community that values and celebrates the abilities of all its members. Join us for a day filled with joy, support, and a shared vision for a more inclusive future. Together, we can make a difference and continue to see the ability in everyone!

To register, visit the Countywide Stride page on Rockcastle Regional’s website at www.rockcastleregional.org/county-wide-stride. The event counts as a race as part of the Countywide Stride Run/Walk series.
